| Based on the "Laws of Attraction," it has captured the interests of people, including celebrities Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres and Larry King. The film, portrayed in a documentary format, presents the principle that feelings and thoughts can attract events. So, based on this principle, positive thoughts can attract positive happenings in your life. Part of this secret is that supposedly people in high places have known about it and have tried to keep it out of the public domain. This remains a mystery. The book version, like the film, suggests that wealth and happiness can be obtained through the requisite positive thinking. Oprah featured the book on her show and afterward it became a best seller on the New York Times list. The film was ranked number one on Amazon as well. The Law of Attraction, a New Thought phrase on which the book and film are based, suggests that people’s lives are dictated by their thoughts, both conscious and unconscious. Once the film was released, this concept became so popular that another book called The Laws of Attraction was released by a New Age writer. There is much skepticism regarding the idea behind The Secret. The New Age movement has had self help books published through the years based on variations of this program. Many claim the idea of the law of attraction violates many scientific principles as well as our understanding of the universe. Those in the medical and spiritual fields suggest it could even be a dangerous idea to envision to those with mental problems. Ultimately, the law of attraction claims to be rooted in quantum physics in spite of being dismissed by the scientific community. And there are enough people who have tried it and believe in it. In essence, The Secret movie promotes positive messages by positive people who want to help others gain a life that until now has been unattainable. It is about improving one’s self and ultimately creating a better world for all, at the very least a worthwhile and ambitious idea.
